He hit thre­e huge sixes and six smalle­r boundary.

The dismissal occurred with the penultimate ball of the Knight Riders’ final over. Jasprit Bumrah smashed a yorker while Venkatesh Iyer attempted to shuffle it down fine leg. The left-hander overlooked the ball that uprooted the middle stump. The final over (five balls) gave only two runs.

With figures of 3/18 in his 3.5 overs, Jasprit Bumrah has continued his purple patch with the ball. This season, the speedster has bagged 17 wickets in 11 matches for Mumbai so far. Ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, he is scheduled to be played in June in the US and the West Indies and will continue with his master class.

Kolkata Knight Riders needed a clinical knock from Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey to eked out 169 against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League game here on Friday.

Pandey hit 42 runs off 31 balls, including two sixes and as many boundaries. He and Venkatesh formed an 83-run partnership for the sixth wicket to enable the visitors recover from 57/5.

KKR might have scored more, but Iyer’s error lost them Andre Russell’s wicket. The all-rounder was ran out while attempting to catch a non-existent single.

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Nuwan Thusara took three wickets, while captain Hardik Pandya took two. Piyush Chawla claimed Rinku Singh’s coveted scalp.

Mumbai, who placed ninth, are looking to return to the victory after dropping the previous three games. They have so far won three of their ten games played.

On the other hand, Kolkata are placed second with six wins in nine games. They will next play against Lucknow supergiants at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, May 5th.
