Rohit Sharma, Team India’s captain, and ex-all-rounder Yuvraj Singh are close buddies. Yuvraj’s rakhi sister is Rohit’s spouse, Ritika Sajdeh. Their first meetup, however, wasn’t too great.

Making his debut in 2000, Yuvraj was a veteran when Rohit Sharma joined the Indian squad in 2007. He made his mark as a brilliant batter in white-ball cricket over time.

Rohit Sharma revealed uncomfortable details of his first encounter with Yuvraj during a lively chat on ‘Breakfast with Champions,’ a 2017 show hosted by Gaurav Kapur.

The event occurred while the 36-year-old was a fresh member of India’s national squad. He recalls sitting aboard the squad bus when the former all-rounder approached him.

Rohit Sharma described the embarrassing meeting to Gaurav:

“I was a big fan of Yuvi. Seriously, he came out like a footballer – in shorts and socks, nice sunglasses and cap, with headphones on. I recognized instantly that this is him. He came inside [the bus] and I said, ‘Yuvi paa, hi Rohit’.

Yuvraj responded:

“Haan, but tujhe pata hai kiska seat hai woh?” (“Yes, but you know whose seat this is?”)

Rohit Sharma said, ‘I don’t know’, to which Yuvraj replied:

“Bhai, main baittha hun udhar. Chal dusra seat pakad le.” (“Brother, this is my seat, you sit at another place.”)

Rohit, on the other hand, quickly corrected himself and stated that the older player was not as nasty to him as he had initially claimed.

“He didn’t say that actually. He said, ‘bhai main baittha hun udhar (brother, I sit here), so please if you can…,” the Indian captain said, concluding the amusing tale.

Yuvraj Singh is a white-ball superstar who has played 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India, accumulating 8,701 and 1,177 runs, respectively. He also played 40 Tests, amassing 1,900 runs at an average of 33.92.

Talking about Rohit, he’s commanding the Indian team in the five-Test series against England on home turf. Two games have transpired, and it’s a tie at 1-1. England triumphed in the inaugural Test in Hyderabad with a margin of 28 runs. Yet, India rebounded with a win by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam.

Rohit’s performance with the bat during this series, however, hasn’t quite hit the mark. His total runs in four innings only tally up to 90, averaging about 22.50. His top score is 39.
