Despite making good progress in his recovery, Rishabh Pant is expected to be out of action for a considerable period of time due to multiple injuries sustained in a car accident on December 30, 2022. He was first treated for his external injuries at Max Hospital in Dehradun before being transferred to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, where the BCCI medical staff provided inputs for the treatment of his multiple ligament tears in his knee.

It is anticipated that Rishabh Pant will need at least eight to nine months to fully recover and be match-fit, with the additional time needed to feature as a wicketkeeper again. He is likely to play as a pure batter until he is fit enough to wear the gloves once more.

Unfortunately, the timeline of his recovery means that he will miss Team India’s upcoming white-ball tournaments, including the Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. Additionally, he has already been ruled out of the World Test Championship (WTC) final, with KS Bharat taking over wicket-keeping duties in his absence. In white-ball cricket, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are expected to handle the wicketkeeping duties for the Men in Blue.

Rishabh Pant, who has undergone multiple surgeries to treat his injuries, is expected to go through one more surgery, which seems to be the final one. Currently, he is under the care of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who heads the Centre for Sports Medicine and is the Director of Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service.

On April 25, Pant shared a story on his Instagram account indicating that he has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for the next phase of his recovery. The last time he played for India was during the tour of Bangladesh in December 2022.

During the first home match of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Pant was seen walking with crutches as he made his way to the stadium. In the stands, he was spotted with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
