After a brilliant century from Usman Khawaja (180) that laid the foundation for Australia’s impressive first innings total of 480 in the fourth Test against India in Ahmedabad, his wife, Rachel Khawaja, dedicated a special post on Instagram to celebrate. The post featured a photo of Khawaja’s children watching him bat on TV and cheering him on.

Rachel Khawaja commended Usman Khawaja’s remarkable performance under challenging conditions. She praised him for his hard work and persistence in the face of so many challenges that he has faced throughout his career, which ultimately led to this triumphant moment.

She wrote:

“Alhamdulillah what an innings that was my love. So much time and hard work has gone into that not to mention years of disappointment and setbacks but you never let it get you down or stop you. And those tough times are what make the good ones all the more special ???? You deserve this so much, me and the girls are so proud of you ???????????? @usman_khawajy #cricket #indvsaus #180 #proud”

Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy lifted the score to 480 runs following Usman Khawaja’s departure

After the tea break, Axar Patel dismissed Khawaja off the first delivery and left Australia at 409/8. India had plans to finish the tail immediately after, yet the lower-order batters had other ideas. Nathan Lyon (34) and Todd Murphy (41) added 70 runs together for the ninth wicket, bringing intense anguish to the Indian bowlers and fielders. Ultimately, Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the last two wickets in the 166th and 168th overs to seal the Australian innings for good.
