The next IPL 2024 auction will be dubbed a “bowler’s auction” since several clubs have surrendered the majority of their bowling assault in order to reorganize their bowling attack.

The adage goes, “batsmen win matches, bowlers win the tournament,” and that has been proven throughout the event’s history.

Teams like the Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians, whose Achilles heel has been their impotent and ineffective bowling attack in recent years, have chosen the restructuring road and will attempt to purchase afresh from the restricted supply pool of excellent bowlers.

Other clubs will attempt to fill certain gaps in their already-established bowling setups in the IPL 2024 auction, which will finally lead to complete mayhem in terms of demand for bowlers in the mini-auction.

In this post, we shall look at some of the likely bowlers’ names that might command high prices in the IPL 2024 auction.

The following are the likely top five most expensive Indian bowlers in the IPL 2024 auction:

5. Shreyas Gopal

With many teams short in spin, it would not be surprising if Shreyas Gopal commands a high price, sparking a bidding battle during the auction.

His IPL statistics back up his claim, as he has taken 49 wickets in as many matches at an economy rate of 8.1. Add to that his lower-order hitting ability, which have been on the increase in recent years on the domestic circuit, and teams would undoubtedly love to acquire him to extend their batting depth.

4. Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya’s ability to swing the new cherry forward with his left arm angle and variations in the death overs will undoubtedly put him on the radar of several teams.

Teams like KKR, which is in urgent need of left-arm bowlers, may go for Sakariya, considering how the new Eden Gardens surface aids pacers with cutters and knuckle balls.

3. Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur didn’t had a terrific IPL 2023 season, with the exception of a few flashes of brilliance here and there. However, this does not diminish his prospects of winning the IPL 2024 auction, and he might become one of the most expensive domestic acquisitions this year.

Teams will try to use his all-round ability, particularly his bowling in the middle overs, where he has bowled 34% dot balls previous to the 2023 IPL.

Given the “Impact Player” criteria, his excellent hitting will offer another dimension to the teams.

2. Harshal Patel

Nobody was surprised when RCB released Harshal Patel before the IPL 2024 auction since he was clearly suffering at Chinnaswamy.

Teams like CSK, RR, and KKR, on the other hand, may aim to add his skills to their bowling attack, as his loopy dipping slower ones may be highly successful on the two-paced surfaces at these teams’ home venues.

1. Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi, a bowler who can smash the deck and has a high ceiling, was unexpectedly released by SRH. This was a wise decision since they were unable to integrate him into the starting lineup.

One’s loss is another’s gain, so the saying goes. Additionally, the setback for SRH presents a chance for other organizations to sign Tyagi to improve their bowling.

Andy Flower’s obsession with hit-the-deck bowlers is widely known. It would not be surprising if RCB went all-in on this young pacer, whose death-bowling economy is 8.8.
