Maheesh Theekshana costly mistake of dropping a dolly gifted Riyan Parag a welcome reprieve during the Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Chepauk last Sunday. The catch drop occurred while Parag was batting at 15 runs off 12 balls. However he turned the tide and finished unbeaten with 47 runs off 35 balls inclusive of three sixes and a boundary setting a 142 run target for the Super Kings.
The event occurred during the 12th over of RR’s innings. Ravindra Jadeja delivered a full-length ball, and Riyan Parag attempted a reverse sweep. The right-hander miscued it to the off-side, but the fielder at deep point messed it up. Maheesh Theekshana dashed to his left, reached for it, but spilled it at the last second.

“Fielding let us down a little bit” – Ruturaj Gaikwad on CSK’s fielding in IPL 2024
After their loss against the Gujarat Titans (GT), CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stated that their fielding has been disappointing. He said on the post-match show:
The Super Kings are coming off of a 35-run setback against the Titans. The reigning champions are fourth in the points standings, having won six of their first twelve games. To advance to the playoffs, they must win their current match.
The Royals despite the setback against Delhi Capitals (DC) by 20 runs retain the second place on the points table. With Sanju Samson at the helm the team boasts eight victories out of 11 matches setting the stage for a potential playoff spot with a crucial win in the upcoming fixture.
