Mahee­sh Theekshana costly mistake of dropping a dolly gifte­d Riyan Parag a welcome reprie­ve during the Indian Premie­r League (IPL) game be­tween Chennai Supe­r Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Chepauk last Sunday. The catch drop occurred while­ Parag was batting at 15 runs off 12 balls. However he turne­d the tide and finished unbe­aten with 47 runs off 35 balls inclusive of three­ sixes and a boundary setting a 142 run target for the­ Super Kings.

The event occurred during the 12th over of RR’s innings. Ravindra Jadeja delivered a full-length ball, and Riyan Parag attempted a reverse sweep. The right-hander miscued it to the off-side, but the fielder at deep point messed it up. Maheesh Theekshana dashed to his left, reached for it, but spilled it at the last second.

Later, Sameer Rizvi dropped Riyan Parag for 36 in the penultimate over.

Riyan Parag has been extremely good with the bat this season, accumulating 483 runs in 11 innings, including four half centuries. The right-hander will try to maintain his excellent form this season as the Royals chase their second IPL title.

After their loss against the Gujarat Titans (GT), CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stated that their fielding has been disappointing. He said on the post-match show:

“Fielding let us down a little bit, we gave away 10-15 runs. Execution-wise we were good but they played really well.”

The Super Kings are coming off of a 35-run setback against the Titans. The reigning champions are fourth in the points standings, having won six of their first twelve games. To advance to the playoffs, they must win their current match.
