Jonty Rhodes said MS Dhoni inspired him to come out on the pitch and help the crew when they pulled on the covers during today’s IPL 2023 match.

Rhodes, a support staff member for the Lucknow Super Giants, won the hearts of the cricket world by helping the ground staff in covering the ground while it rained at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium.

LSG hosted Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2023 encounter earlier today in Lucknow. Unfortunately, due to rain, the match was called off after 19.2 overs.

The ground crew pulled the covers to preserve the pitch and field. Jonty Rhodes also joined them to make sure that the groundsmen could put the covers on as quickly as possible. The Twitter account IPL posted a video of the incident.

On Twitter, a cricket fan praised Rhodes for his humility. Rhodes responded to his message on social media, writing:

“Thank you @Anand_ac314 I was actually inspired by MS Dhoni and the way he handled the incredible support he was shown at #EkanaStadium. Not just a legend, but a great man too #7 #legend #greathuman #respectthegame.”

Regardless of the fact that the match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Chennai Super Kings was called off, fans in Lucknow were able to see MS Dhoni play live at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. It was Dhoni’s 1st IPL match in Lucknow.

Before the game started, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla honoured him. When Dhoni won the toss in Lucknow, he was greeted with tremendous applause. Fans would have wanted to see him bat as well, but the Chennai Super Kings were unable to bat against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Each team got one point. LSG is now second in the points table, with CSK in third.
