Jemimah Rodrigues, a talented India Women’s batter, skipped her 12th board exams to debut for the national team in February 2018 during their tour of South Africa. She made her T20I debut in Potchefstroom, followed by her one-day debut against Australia in March of that year.
Now aged 22, Rodrigues is currently playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023, having been bought for a substantial Rs 2.2 crore at the auction. Her impressive skills and potential have earned her recognition and admiration within the cricketing community.
Jemimah Rodrigues’ family relocated from Bhandup to Bandra (West) in Mumbai to provide her with better sports facilities. Her passion for cricket started at the early age of 4, and her family and friends are not surprised by her success.
In addition to cricket, she also played hockey during her childhood days. Her father, Ivan, was her junior coach at school and has been her mentor since she was young. Jemimah regards her father as her “hero” and attributes her achievements to his training and guidance.
At the young age of 13, Jemimah Rodrigues was selected for the U-19 state cricket team, and she was also chosen for Maharashtra U-17 and U-19 in hockey.
In a remarkable achievement, Jemimah became only the second women’s cricketer, after Smriti Mandhana, to score a double century in a domestic one-day match. During a game against Saurashtra, she smashed an impressive 202 off 163 balls, which caught many people’s attention. In June 2018, Jemimah was honored with the Jagmohan Dalmiya award for being the best junior women’s player (domestic). The award was presented to her by the legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni.
Jemimah Rodrigues: Making Her Mark on the Grand Stage
Jemimah Rodrigues boasts an impressive record in T20Is, scoring 1704 runs with a strike rate of 114.20 and 10 half-centuries. She has also played in the Women’s Big Bash League and The Hundred, scoring 249 runs in the first season with an average of 41.50. In a match against Welsh Fire, Jemimah smashed 92* off 43 balls, the tournament’s highest score.
