On Tuesday, the third Twenty20 International between India and Australia was played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The umpires evaluated Ishan Kishan stumping attempt off Axar Patel in the 19th over of Australia’s innings. The delivery was originally called wide, but after further examination, it was amended to a no-ball.
Axar, the left-arm spinner, delivered one wide outside off to Australian skipper Matthew Wade. Wade misjudged the ball and fell slightly, but wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan recovered it and dislodged the bails.
However, after reviewing replays, the third umpire determined that Ishan Kishan had retrieved the ball in front of the stumps, which is against the rules. As a result, the delivery was ruled a no-ball.
MCC Law 27.3.1 states:
“The wicketkeeper shall remain wholly behind the wicket at the striker’s end from the moment the ball comes into play until a ball delivered by the bowler touches the bat or person of the striker or passes the wicket at the striker’s end, or the striker attempts a run.”
Law 27.3.2 says:
“In the event of the wicket-keeper contravening this Law, the striker’s end umpire shall call and signal No ball as soon as applicable after the delivery of the ball.”
Matthew Wade smashed the free hit over long-on for a hat trick. To make matters worse, Ishan Kishan failed to properly retrieve the last ball of the over, resulting in four byes. Australia won by five wickets after scoring 22 runs in the 19th over delivered by Axar.
Maxwell’s Century Keeps Australia Alive in the Series
Glenn Maxwell hit 104* off 48 balls as Australia chased down a target of 223 off the penultimate ball to remain alive in the five-match T20I series.
After losing the toss, India batted first and set up 222-3 in 20 overs, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 123 off 57 balls, which included 13 fours and seven sixes. Maxwell, on the other hand, answered with eight fours and as many sixes as Australia chased down the towering score in the last ball.
With 16 needed off four, Maxwell clubbed Prasidh Krishna for a six and three fours to take Australia over the line. The fourth T20I of the series will be played in Raipur on Friday.
