Australia preserved their place in the ongoing 5-match T20I series against India after defeating the hosts in the third match on Tuesday, November 28 in Guwahati in a thrilling run-fest. Glenn Maxwell’s valiant century (104*) pushed the visitors to a five-wicket victory.

Matthew Wade elected to bat first after winning the toss. In their 20 overs, the hosts scored a superb first-innings total of 222/3. Ruturaj Gaikwad (123*) was India’s standout, achieving the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is.

Australia had to respond with all guns blazing, which they did, scoring 67 runs on the powerplay. Glenn Maxwell then destroyed the Indian assault with a 47-ball century to put Australia over the top.

While several Indian bowlers struggled on the night, Prasidh Krishna in particular had a bad day. The right-armer conceded 68 runs in four overs, making him the Indian with the most costly bowling numbers in a T20I game.

On that topic, these are the five worst bowling numbers by an Indian in the international game’s shortest format.

5. 1/56 – Deepak Chahar (vs WI) and Umran Malik (vs ENG)

Deepak Chahar and Umran Malik, two Indian pacers with opposing strengths, are on this list. While Chahar is a new-ball bowler who depends largely on his swing, Malik is one of the quickest bowlers in the country and frequently rushes hitters.

Both, however, had poor days, allowing 56 runs each. In 2019, India hosted the West Indies for a three-match Twenty20 International series.

The visitors produced 207/5 in the opening game in Hyderabad and targeted Chahar, who replied with figures of 56/1 in four overs. No other Indian bowler let up more than 36 runs that day.

Similarly, when India met England in the third T20I at Nottingham in 2022, Malik produced a spell of 56/1. The English batsmen wreaked havoc on an inexperienced Indian pace attack led by Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, and Harshal Patel.

Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s incredible 117 off 55 balls, England won the game.

4. 0/57 – Joginder Sharma vs England at 2007 T20 World Cup

Joginder Sharma gave up 57 runs in this match, which is notable for Yuvraj Singh’s legendary six sixes off Stuart Broad in one over.

India scored a large first-innings tally of 218/4 in a critical 2007 T20 World Cup encounter in Durban, thanks to a stunning knock by Yuvraj (58 off 16).

In response, the English hitters gave it their all but could only manage 200/6 in 20 overs. Joginder Sharma, on the other hand, had a poor game, allowing 57 runs in four overs at an economy rate of 14.25.

Despite this, Joginder was not the poorest bowler on the night, as Broad had a disappointing first-innings performance of 0/60.

3. 2/62 – Arshdeep Singh vs South Africa in 2022

When South Africa visited India for a three-match T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, Arshdeep Singh finished with five wickets over two innings.

In Trivandrum, Arshdeep started the series with a match-winning spell of 3/32. He struck twice in his opening over of the second match in Guwahati, dismissing both Temba Bavuma and Rilee Rossouw. South Africa therefore fell short of their target of 238 runs in the second innings.

However, Arshdeep’s fortunes did not improve after that. In his next three overs, the left-armer gave up 16, 15, and 26 runs, finishing with a bowling analysis of 2/62 and an economy rate of 15.5.

While India eventually won by 16 runs, Arshdeep became the first Indian bowler to concede more than 60 runs in a T20I game.

2. 0/64 – Yuzvendra Chahal vs South Africa in 2018

Yuzvendra Chahal was one of India’s most effective weapons when the Men in Blue crushed South Africa 5-1 in a 6-match ODI series on the latter’s home soil.

However, the leg-spinner cut a sorry figure with a disastrous outing in the second T20I in Centurion. With the rain around, Chahal failed to control the wet ball and was hit for 64 runs in four overs, the most by an India spinner in a T20I.

South Africa’s 13th over, and Chahal’s third, yielded 23 runs. During the game, the leggie became the first Indian bowler to let up seven sixes in a T20I. Heinrich Klaasen, who was named Player of the Match for his spectacular 30-ball 69, hit five of the seven sixes.

1. 0/68 – Prasidh Krishna vs Australia in 2023

Prasidh Krishna, the most recent addition to the list, now has the unwelcome record for the worst-ever stats by an Indian in T20 internationals. The 27-year-old conceded 68 runs in four overs in the just finished third T20I against Australia in Guwahati.

The Australian hitters found it simple to smash Prasidh’s bowling, which allowed Travis Head (35 off 18) four boundaries in his opening over.

Suryakumar Yadav then waited for three wickets to fall before throwing the ball to Prasidh for his second over. Maxwell pounced on the lanky pacer and amassed 23 runs, causing a significant shift in momentum in that over.

Then there were the death overs, and Prasidh began his second term with a booming 18th over. He performed the slower balls flawlessly against two set hitters, allowing only six runs. He was then entrusted with defending 21 runs off the game’s last over.

Unfortunately for him and Team India, Maxwell maintained his cool while Prasidh looked befuddled. He handed up four boundaries and a six in his last over as Australia completed their second-largest run chase in T20I history.
