India’s first match against Australia, in Chennai, kicked off the 2023 World Cup. The­y won by six wickets. From there, India’s winning stre­ak continued. They beat all rivals, ofte­n by a large margin.

After cruising through the league stage, Team India advanced to the 2023 World Cup final after defeating New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. India batted first and scored 397/4 before holding the Kiwis to 327.

The upcoming game­ versus Australia represe­nts India’s fourth one-day international (ODI) World Cup match at Ahmedabad. Notably, India has a winning stre­ak at this location, victorious in all previous three ODI World Cup game­s it has hosted.

In 1987, Team India played Zimbabwe in their maiden ODI World Cup match in Ahmedabad. The hosts prevailed by seven wickets, thanks to a brilliant all-round performance from skipper Kapil Dev (41* off 25 & 2/44). India bowled first in the game, limiting Zimbabwe to 191/7. The chase was led by Navjot Sidhu (55) and Sunil Gavaskar (50), and the hosts triumphed in 42 overs.

The memorable 2011 quarter-final between India and Australia was India’s second ODI World Cup encounter in Ahmedabad. The Australians batted first and made 260/6, with Ricky Ponting top-scoring with 104 off 118 balls. The Men in Blue reached the goal in 47.4 overs, with five wickets in hand, with to major contributions from Yuvraj Singh (57*), Sachin Tendulkar (53), and Gautam Gambhir (50).

On October 14, India faced archrival Pakistan in the World Cup’s league match. The Men in Blue won by seven wickets to retain their unblemished record against Pakistan in the ICC competition. India bowled first and limited the opposition to 191 points, with five bowlers each taking two wickets. The chase was then led by skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored 86 from 63 balls.
