It’s half past 2024, and while we have witnessed many surprises already, the list is never-ending in the world of cricket, India’s very own first-ever independent woman director of the world body, Indra Nooyi has ended her association with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Indra Nooyi, famously known as the CEO of PepsiCo, no longer seems to hold the coveted position.
ICC in Look New Independent Woman Director
Sources state her term ended with the Annual conference in Colombo last month when Nooyi thanked the ICC for the Opportunity in an online meeting. While this might have its downsides, the upside is that the ICC is now on the lookout for another suitable candidate, who can fit in the category of an Independent woman director.
The latest is that an Australian woman will come in her place.
The ICC Constitution states an Independent woman director is eligible for three terms of 2 years and in July 2024, she completed 6 years comprising 3 terms. The Chennai-born American businesswoman, Nooyi joined the ICC in 2018, serving for the term of 2 years.
Shashank Manohar, ICC’s former chairman and a former president of BCCI was the one first to appoint Nooyi. She has had 2 extensions before the ICC, CEO at PepsiCo from 2006 to 2018. As Nooyi takes her leave, the ICC is now left with 16 members in the all-powerful Board- 12 full members, consisting of 17 members.
We account for the numbers as one of the crucial factors since the directors will elect the new chairman based on the number of votes the candidate upholds, notification for which was issued by the ICC on Tuesday. It is quite improbable that a contest would be held for the chairman position as Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, already scores the highest score and believes should be elected unopposed.
