Criticizing the mindset of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) allrounder Glenn Maxwell in the IPL former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary expressed disappointment after a horrific 2024 edition. Maxwell faced dismissal for a golden duck against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the Eliminator on Wednesday May 23.

Tiwary illuminated the situation where RCB had recently lost the wicket of Cameron Green emphasizing the need for Maxwell to step up and forge a vital partnership. Regrettably Maxwells attempt to smash the first ball out of the park resulted in his dismissal at long on.

In an interview with Cricbuzz following the game Manoj Tiwary criticized Glenn Maxwell for what he perceived as a lack of commitment in the IPL stating that the Australian allrounder isnt taking things seriously enough. Tiwary remarked:

“You have so much experience in international cricket… when you play for Australia, you perform so good. But as soon as you come to IPL, I don’t know what happens to him. It seems he has no interest. He doesn’t care if he get out. Bank balance thik hai, cheque pohoch jaaega time pe (his bank balance is fine, the cheque will reach him on time). He will do get-togethers in night, have a laugh and gets photos clicked.”

Maxwell scored just 52 runs in 10 innings in the IPL 2024, at an abysmal average of 5.78. The judgment is still out on whether the Royal Challengers should keep him ahead of the potential IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Despite winning their final six league games in a row and entering the playoffs, the Royal Challengers were outperformed by the Royals in every aspect in the Eliminator. Manoj Tiwary expressed his displeasure with RCB’s failure to solve their difficulties in order to win their first IPL title.

Tiwary stated:

“What’s the end result? You play to win. When Bengaluru weren’t performing good, we were sitting right here and analysing why they weren’t performing. At the end of the day, they might be happy that they won six back to back matches to qualify, but the end result is the trophy, which isn’t there. So, the problem is there.”

RCB had a tremendous showcase of talent courtesy of players such as Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Will Jacks and Cameron Green with their bowling department excelling in the latter phase of the season. This grants them multiple options for retention given the prevailing uncertainties around the Mega Auction dynamics.
