The series finale Test match is being played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. While facing some crafty Australian spin bowling, Kohli applied himself and paid a steep price for his wicket. On Day 4, the former Indian captain resumed play at 59 and was tasked with moving India’s score along.
He had a slump in his innings but overcame it and continued scoring runs at a steady clip. After 1,205 days, the ex-Indian captain finally scored his 28th Test century. The Delhi native kept the pressure on the opposition even after reaching century status, helping India surpass Australia’s first-innings score of 480.
By scoring his magnificent century, Kohli broke a few records. In the fourth Test against Australia, he scored 186 runs, breaking five records.
1. World’s fastest homegrown player to reach 11,000 runs in international competition.
The modern legend reached 11,000 international runs for India in India, breaking a record during his outstanding 186-run knock. Kohli became the fastest hitter in history to amass 11,000 international runs when he did so at home in 224 innings.
Before this, the record had been shared by Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting, who both achieved the feat in their respective countries in 246 innings. With an overall average of 58.46 and a total of 35 tons and 51 half-centuries, Kohli now has 11,050 runs in India across all formats.
2. Second-most runs scored against Australia in an international match
