During the IPL 2024 encounter against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday MS Dhoni a stalwart of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showcased his exceptional batting skills with a quick cameo of 26* (11). Unfortunately CSKs valiant efforts were in vain as they eventually suffered a 35run defeat to GT in Ahmedabad.

GT opted to bat first despite the toss setback and managed to achieve a remarkable total of 231/4. This game was a mustwin scenario for them to cling onto their slim chances of entering the playoffs. Captain Shubman Gills exceptional century scoring 104 runs truly set the tone for his team. Accompanying him impressively Sai Sudharsan reached a milestone with a hundred of his own.

CSK then escaped a top-order collapse, with to strong knocks from Daryl Mitchell (63) and Moeen Ali (56), who kept them in contention. Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan took wickets at critical moments in the second part of the chase, halting CSK’s momentum.

MS Dhoni came in to bat in the 17th over, following Shivam Dube’s dismissal. The equation proved too difficult for Super Kings at that point, as they need 67 runs from 3.2 overs. MS Dhoni could only cut the losing margin by smashing three sixes and a four while remaining undefeated.

CSK supporters were frustrated by their team’s loss, but they were ecstatic to watch ‘Thala’ hit a pair of sixes. Here are a few fan responses to Dhoni’s appearance on X:

Regarding his health and bowling form, Rashid Khan continued:

“Happy to get a couple of wickets after a couple of wicketless games. The body is feeling better slowly. I have a back issue, the other game I got hit on my shoulder so struggling with that. But hopefully soon I’ll be 100 per cent fit.”
