Former England captain Eoin Morgan has claimed that Ben Stokes enjoyed playing under MS Dhoni during his one-year tenure with the Chennai Super Kings. The 2019 World Cup-winning captain feels both Stokes and the CSK captain like wearing the yellow shirt.

The Super Kings spent a hefty INR 16.25 crore on Stokes ahead of the IPL 2023, but the gun all-rounder only played two games because to various niggles and returned home midway. The 32-year-old had also withdrawn from the auction ahead of the 2024 edition to balance his commitments.

Eoin Morgan told Jio Cinema that Dhoni leaves an indelible impression on any team and player by providing unwavering support. In that light, the Irishman claimed he and Ben Stokes are comparable.

Eoin Morgan said:

“They absolutely love it, to be honest. They talk about the same characteristics. When you’re talking about being led brilliantly, you always say, ‘Will the team follow him?’ When it’s MS Dhoni, you never question that.

“He leaves an indelible mark on every player. He instils the belief that they have the ability to go out and play with the pride that’s associated with CSK, and lets them know that everybody is backing them.

“Ben Stokes, who has an incredible amount of self-belief, loved playing under MS Dhoni. He did it at Pune for a couple of years and obviously shared the dressing room with him last year. They absolutely love wearing that yellow shirt.”

Meanwhile, the Super Kings will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chepauk on Friday, March 22. The Yellow Army has dominated the Royal Challengers, winning 20 of 30 matches.

RCB is also one of the rare franchises who have yet to win a title despite reaching the final three times. They were memorably defeated by the Super Kings in the 2011 final.
