Danish Kaneria, the ex-Pakistan bowler, was displeased with Pat Cummins’ bad decision of a shot during Australia’s second batting session at the recently finished Delhi Test against India on February 19th.
Kaneria expressed doubt about the Aussie skipper’s choice to play a slog sweep on the initial ball, believing Cummins should have been more careful. He postulated that if an Indian or Pakistani captain had been dismissed in such a way, the team would have demanded they go back home.
On his YouTube channel after Australia’s loss to India in the second Test, he commented that the Australian batters were unable to play in front of the stumps, resulting in them all getting out trying to play the sweep shot. He went on to criticize Pat Cummins for his captaincy, claiming he was scared when he saw there were a lot of turns, and that if a captain from India or Pakistan had done the same, he would have been sent home the next day.
Cummins particularly had a poor performance on the third day’s morning session, as he was out for a duck when he tried to hit a slog sweep from Ravindra Jadeja’s left-arm spin. He was deceived by the low bounce and the ball ended up striking his stumps.
Apart from Cummins, the other Australian batsmen also did not put up a good performance. The team lost nine wickets in the morning session, leaving India a 115-run goal to aim for. Subsequently, India easily achieved the target, winning the match by six wickets and taking a two-game lead in the four-match series.
