The last few Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series (since 2017) have been a testament to the talent and excellence of Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. The right-handed batsman has been one of the cornerstones of the Indian batting line-up, and his performances in the last few series have been nothing short of remarkable.

Pujara has been in excellent form over the last few series, with his brilliant technique, sound judgement and excellent shot selection ensuring that he is able to build and maintain his innings with great consistency. His century in the second Test against Australia in the last series was a prime example of his ability to play big innings under pressure and his ability to see the team through difficult situations.

Australia was ahead 1-0 in the second test match when Cheteshwar Pujara scored an amazing 90 runs and formed a crucial partnership with Ajinkya Rahane, which drew the series 1-1. Pujara continued to shock the Australian bowlers in Ranchi by scoring 200 runs, making it the longest innings he had ever played in terms of balls faced. Pujara began to tire both in terms of physical and emotional energy.

During India’s tour of Australia in 2018, the top scorers of the team were in a sticky situation during the first test in Adelaide, but Pujara came to the rescue with a spectacular 100 runs on the opening day, setting the tempo for the Indian squad. In the second innings, he added another 50, and at the MCG, his brilliance of making it to an astonishing 100 runs was seen yet again. He was able to tire out the Australian bowlers, which eventually led to India’s two consecutive wins in the BGT and the team’s first victory in a series.

Though the 2020-21 BGT cannot evaluate his efforts, his performance in the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) test was remarkable, as he worked well with Pant to put India in a position to draw the match. Additionally, at the Gabba, Pujara showed great resilience, making a vital 50 and staying with Gill and Pant, who ultimately led India to a historic victory on Australian soil.

Will Pujara keep his spark alive in the upcoming BGT? Be ready to catch him live in action!
