The fans were very upset when Sanju Samson was given out in a controversial way during an IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday. The RR captain also looked sad after the third umpire’s decision did not favor him.

The event occurred in the 16th over, when Sanju Samson attempted to smash a half-tracker from Mukesh Kumar with the fourth delivery of the over but was unable to middle the ball. Despite some wobbles at the boundary dimensions, Shai Hope apparently held on to the catch.

According to the third umpire, Hope cleanly caught the ball, and Samson was ruled out. However, another perspective showed Hope’s knee apparently contacting the cushions, but the third umpire made a hasty ruling.

Sanju Samson was out. The third umpire made the final call. Samson started walking back to the dugout. Then he got told that the fielder touched the ropes. But the 15-second timer was already over. So Samson got into a big argument with the umpires.

Interestingly, supporters pointed out that the third umpire delayed around three minutes to pronounce a wide but quickly decided on Samson’s wicket.

Here’s how fans responded to Samson’s shocking dismissal:

“The decisions by umpires in this season are below average. Sanju samson catch was not clean. He has been given out without examining the catch properly,” one fan commented.

“Even if Sanju Samson was out, the 3rd umpire should have taken the time to give the decision. Not the first time this has happened in this IPL season,” another fan noted.

“Checking multiple angles for wide review and checking only one angle for a close boundary line catch! Just third umpire things!!” this fan tweeted.

Sanju Samson blasted eight fours and four sixes before being removed for 86 off 46.
