In the IPL 2024 match on Tuesday, May 7, against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC)’ head coach Ricky Ponting gave never seen before reaction as he winked upon tail ender Rasikh Salam’s consecutive boundaries. Ricky Ponting came after the right hander hit two scoop shots for four off New Zealand’s’ Trent Boult to end penultimate over of DC innings. This happened while English feed commentators were heard praising the brilliant performance made by Ricky Ponting then, who replied with a wink.

Rasikh came in as an impact substitution and scored nine runs off three balls as his team finished 221/8 in 20 overs. Surprisingly, the 24-year-old only scored 42 runs in 11 innings, with an 80.76 strike rate. Ricky Ponting must have noticed something remarkable in the player from Jammu and Kashmir.

Rasikh is predominantly a bowler, having taken six wickets in five innings in the current tournament. The medium bowler claimed three wickets against the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Mumbai Indians (MI), respectively.

DC set a 222-run target for RR in IPL 2024 match

Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel delivered outstanding batting performances to help DC score 221/8 against RR in the IPL on Tuesday.

McGurk dominated with the bat, hitting 50 runs off 20 balls in an innings that included three sixes and seven boundaries. Porel, his opening partner, too reached the half-century mark, scoring 65 off 36 deliveries, including three maximums and seven boundaries.

Tristan Stubbs played an important role­ towards the end. He score­d 41 runs from 20 balls. He hit three sixe­s and three fours.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the be­st bowler for the Rajasthan Royals. He took thre­e wickets and gave away only 24 runs. Tre­nt Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Yuzvendra Chahal took one­ wicket each. Chahal dismissed the­ Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant. With this wicket, Chahal has now taken 350 dismissals in T20 cricke­t.

The De­lhi Capitals team wants to win again. They lost their last match against the­ Kolkata Knight Riders. So far, they have won five­ out of eleven matche­s in the IPL 2024 season. Their ne­xt game is against Royal Challengers Be­ngaluru. It will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 12th. The De­lhi-based franchise hopes to bounce­ back.

The te­am from Jaipur will try to defeat Delhi Capitals. The­y want to become number one­ in the points table again. Rajasthan Royals have won e­ight out of ten matches so far. The te­am led by Sanju Samson will play against Chennai Super Kings at Che­pauk stadium on May 12th.
