RCB’s coach, Andy Flower, is backing bowler Yash Dayal to shine in the IPL 2024 season. Dayal had a standout first season in 2022, nabbing 11 wickets. However, he couldn’t match up to Rinku Singh’s extraordinary performance earlier this year.

The left-arm pacer Yash Dayal appeared to lose confidence after the southpaw hit five sixes off of five balls to win the match for his side. The Gujarat Titans discharged Dayal with an economy rate of 11.79 and just two wickets.

When RCB bid a whooping INR 5 crore for him during the IPL 2024 auction, this naturally raised quite a few questions. But in an interview with Jio Cinema, Andy Flower revealed his reasons for thinking that Yash Dayal had promise. He declared:

“As far as Yash Dayal is concerned, we saw some of his potential last year, certainly with the new ball for swing and wicket-taking potential. I know he had a hard time at the death occasionally, but we believe he has got high potential and we are looking for great things from him.”

Andy Flower also discussed acquiring Alzarri Joseph, a speedster from the West Indies. He continued, saying:

“We had a go at Pat Cummins but were outbid in the end. We went for Alzarri and are really happy to have him. He is a quality operator. Faf (du Plessis) and I have worked with him before at Saint Lucia Kings and I think Faf’s worked with him in the SA20 as well.”

All-rounder Cameron Green was traded in ahead of the auction, much to Andy Flower’s pleasure. The RCB coach believed that Green had finished a strong top six for them, which would enable them to both score large runs and, when necessary, chase down enormous totals.

Regarding this, he said:

“With the recruitment of Cameron Green, we certainly wanted to get some power into the middle order. So, if we have got (Glenn) Maxwell and Green at four and five, it gives us that power.

“We have got DK (Dinesh Karthik) at number six and obviously the class of Faf (Du Plessis), Virat (Kohli) and (Rajat) Patidar upfront. We think that is a really great top six. We should be able to set big totals and chase down big totals.”

Whether RCB can finally end their IPL title streak will be intriguing to watch, especially with a new management group and a number of new players.
