Farewell to an Icon: Amla’s Retirement Tribute & Celebration
Hashim Amla, a renowned South African hitter, has declared his retirement from all cricket-related activities. Amla won’t play for the county in 2023 despite continuing to play for Surrey after retiring from international competition. Amla, who had played for Surrey in 2013 and 2014, retired from international cricket following the ODI World Cup and afterwards signed a contract with Kolpak. He made his final professional cricket appearance in the County Championship game against Lancashire last year. During that season, Surrey won the championship and accumulated over 700 runs at an average of close to 40.
I have excellent recollections of the Oval ground and am incredibly grateful for everything that has happened. I finally leave it as a player. Any international player would feel honoured to be associated with the Surrey ship because of how professionally it is conducted. I wish them well and many more victories. The right-hander amassed over 18000 runs during his international career, including 55 centuries.

Hashim is a wonderful cricket player and decent guy, and he has been a great resource for the team to use for knowledge on and off the field.” In addition to scoring essential goals at crucial times, he has demonstrated a willingness to dig deep and do whatever is required to help his side win in difficult situations. I can’t express my gratitude to him enough for everything he has done for Surrey, and I use him as an example of what a true professional is to all aspiring athletes.”
