SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma was surprised after being bowled out by a typical Mitchell Starc outswinger in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) final against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The left-handed batter’s amazing batsmanship came to an end on Sunday, May 26, when he was removed for only two runs off five deliveries at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

This time, Abhishek Sharma took the attack against Starc rather than Travis Head. The Australian seamer immediately applied pressure on the teenager with a torrent of outswingers well outside his hitting arc. Abhishek Sharma was eager to get started after a near call on a run-out attempt.

However, the initial hitter was unable to negotiate with what may have been the tournament’s best ball. The delivery, pitched at a fair length, nipped back and smacked the top of the off stump. The hitter attempted to stroke the ball to the on side but was caught all ends up.

Travis Head’s misfortunes continue to plague SRH as he succumbs to his third golden duck in the last four outings. The lefthanded batter inadvertently handed his wicket to the wicketkeeper off Vaibhav Aroras delivery in the second over of the innings.

At present Sunrisers Hyderabad is grappling at 21/2 following four overs as Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram share the crease.

Abhishek Sharma had a breakout season with the bat, erupting at the top of the order alongside Travis Head. The uncapped batsman has made a strong case for his first Indian call-up, and his performances are consistent with the current game.

He finished the season with 484 runs and an explosive strike rate. However, he was unable to establish himself throughout the playoffs, scoring only 17 runs in three games, including the current final.
