Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), flipped the coin at the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) toss at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. The two-time winners will face the Pat Cummins-led SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, May 26.

Shreyas Iyer performed a circular motion, spinning 360 degrees and shooting the coin upward halfway through. Shreyas Iyer is well-known for his unusual movements during the coin toss, which he uses to his advantage. This time, the maneuver didn’t work.

Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first.

“We will bat first. Looks like a good wicket. Never the best at reading wickets. Played at a different one in the last, this looks different. There was no dew the other night so hopefully, it’s the same tonight. Fingers crossed that today is one of those nights,” Cummins said at the toss.

SRH defended a target at the same site against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) a few days before in the Qualifier 2 match. KKR’s only away loss this season occurred at the stadium, when they were defeated by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the league stage.

Shreyas Iyer has attempted something unusual to win the toss on several occasions, not only in the final. In the league stage match versus RR at Eden Gardens, the KKR captain kissed the coin before flipping it in the air. Despite his shenanigans, Iyer ultimately lost the toss.

Shreyas Iyer has a solid track record when it comes to tosses in the IPL. Since being named captain of the competition, he has won 36 tosses for a victory percentage of 52.17.

Shreyas Iyer made the crucial decision to bat first in the 2020 IPL final after winning the toss. Regrettably their total of 156/7 was insufficient as MI effortlessly chased it down to claim their fifth title with ease.
