Devon Conway, the opening batter for the Chennai Super Kings, spoke about the nerve-racking wait during the extended rain delay before the amazing run chase in the grand finale.

CSK’s run chase, which was chasing 215 for the win, was interrupted by rain after only three deliveries. It was resumed some hours later, with them requiring 171 off 15 overs in a shortened game.

Conway led the Super Kings at the restart, scoring 47 off 25 deliveries. He and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on a spectacular opening partnership of 74 off 39 balls.

Conway expressed his delight after winning his first IPL title after the game.

“It was a long time to wait, very nervous but Rutu and I plotted how we’ll go about it,” Conway said. “Personally, is the greatest win in my career. IPL final doesn’t get bigger than that. Lot of credit to Mike Hussey, fellow left-handed player. Nice to be in his shoes.”

Conway had an outstanding season, scoring 672 runs with a strike rate of 139.71 and an average of 51.69.

Since joining Chennai last season, the Kiwi batter has amassed over 900 runs in 23 games, including nine half-centuries and a best score of 92* against Punjab Kings.
