The Smriti Mandhana-led team started the 2024 WPL with great hopes, considering their star-studded lineup and the fact that the first leg matches were set to take place at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The squad exceeded the high expectations by qualifying for the playoffs, where they faced the reigning champion Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. The Royal Challengers advanced to the grand final and set up a thrilling match against the Delhi Capitals by defeating MI by five runs in a nail-biting finish.

After captain Meg Lanning chose to bat first in the final, the Delhi Capitals scored only 113 runs in 18.3 overs. Chasing 114 runs for their first title (men’s or women’s), RCB won by eight wickets with three balls remaining. Ellyse Perry, an Australian all-rounder, struck 35* from 37 balls, once again leading the side.
