Prithvi Shaw, the talented Delhi Capitals (DC) opener, was dropped from their playing XI for their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday, April 24. DC had been patient with Shaw despite his poor form in the IPL 2023 season, where he had scored only 47 runs in six matches at a dismal average of 7.83 and a strike rate of 117.50, and had been a liability in the field as well. This led to him being named as part of the Impact player substitute for the last few matches. However, his exclusion from the playing XI against SRH suggests that DC has finally run out of patience with him.

Prithvi Shaw had a decent IPL season last year, ad with regular skipper Rishabh Pant injured, there were high expectations from him this season. It was also seen as an opportunity for Shaw to make a comeback into the Indian cricket team. However, his performances in the ongoing season have been disappointing. Despite dropping Shaw, Delhi Capitals (DC) did not have a good start to their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. They lost Phil Salt for a duck in the very first over after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

During the toss of their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner announced the tough call to remove Prithvi Shaw from the playing XI. Despite this, Warner remains hopeful that Shaw will be able to regain his place in the team.

In the match between the two lowest-ranked teams in the points table, Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bat first, hoping for a much-needed victory. Their batting effort resulted in a total of 144/9.
