To ensure that Team India has a successful set of months ahead, including the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June and the 2023 ODI World Cup in October-November, Suryakumar Yadav is expected to take up the captaincy role of MI in Rohit Sharma’s absence. Rohit is the designated leader across formats, so his fitness and lack of injury are crucial for Team India’s success.

The men in blue are already feeling the strain of regular casualties on their injury list. With Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah missing from the team for the foreseeable future, the prospect of further injuries from the IPL could mean even greater trouble. The franchises have been told to closely monitor the workload of certain players, and the medical staff is expected to remain in contact with the NCA.

According to the report, Rohit Sharma will determine which games he participates in this 2023 season while taking some time off from the pitch. However, he will remain close to the team, as he’ll travel with them and guide stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav from the sidelines. To ensure that his fellow Indian players can adequately manage their workload during the IPL, Rohit Sharma stated after the conclusion of the ODI series against Australia:

“It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchises. And more importantly, it’s up to the players.

“They are all adults; they have to look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games.”
