India’s talented T20 player, Suryakumar Yadav, has kicked off his return journey. He just resumed batting practice in the net. His sidelining came due to an ankle injury. This injury happened in the course of fieldwork during last month’s third T20I match against South Africa held in Johannesburg. Back then, he quickly exited the field and did not make a re-entry that day.

The BCCI’s medical crew decided he couldn’t play for the next 7-8 weeks. This situation kept him out of the current matches with Afghanistan. It’s floating around that he has a sports hernia and may need an operation. He’s set to rejoin the team by IPL 2024, by all signs.

Ex-West Indies captain Chris Gayle openly applauded Suryakumar Yadav for his superb play in T20. In a chat with Star Sports, Gayle called Surya an outstanding player and stated:

“I don’t know how to describe that, he’s just phenomenal. [Suryakumar Yadav hits] pretty much all around the ground, fantastic. Good strike rate, good player. Like I said, [he has a] bright future as well. I know he pretty much just started but down the road, consistency is going to be even more key for a player like SKY. He’s got phenomenal talent, you know, unbelievable talent.”

Chris Gayle added:

“You just don’t know how to describe it. I am sure bowlers also try to pinpoint how to bowl to him because he’s so, you know, like a 360 [degree] player as well. It is going to be difficult for bowlers to work him, to decide which areas to [bowl to] try and cramp him out. Like I said, he’s just phenomenal.”
