Suryakumar Yadav, the top-ranked T20I batter in the world, is playing his first Test match for India against Australia in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is making his Test debut for India against Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Along with him, wicketkeeper KS Bharat is also making his debut. Yadav’s inclusion means that in-form batter Shubman Gill is not part of the XI, while Ishan Kishan is also not there. Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat against India in the first Test.
India captain Rohit Sharma said at the toss that they would have batted as well and that the field looked quite dry. He also added that there would be an aid for spinners, and they would have to wait and see how much it helps.
He further mentioned that when they began their practice session the day before, they observed some seam movement for their pacers. He concluded that they had a thorough preparation for the past 5-6 days.
Rohit stated that they had practised on the issues at hand and that it was a big challenge. He added that it was a long series, with three spinners, two-seamers Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav, making their debut.
Australia’s team has two new members, Todd Murphy and Peter Handscomb, and according to Pat Cummins at the toss, they are feeling quite well-prepared. He also noted that the wicket looked quite even and mentioned the significant series from 2017. He is looking forward to beginning the game.
