Suresh Raina, a former Indian cricketer, is famed for his epic news conference one-liners. During a recent engagement, he was once again at his best, this time in response to a query concerning MS Dhoni‘s future.
The Chennai Super Kings’ skipper will be 42 in July, and many believe this will be his final IPL season. Raina, who has known Dhoni and played alongside him for India and CSK for many years, feels the veteran can play for another year.
Suresh Raina, who is also an IPL specialist, discussed how successfully MS Dhoni has led CSK this season during a media interview organised by Jio Cinema. He stated:
Dhoni was telling me he will win the trophy and play for one more year (sarcastic laughs). He is looking good and batting really well. The team combination is also set. So I think the entire India would want him to play on.
“It will depend on him and his body and he will take that call. As much as I have known him, I think he should play for one more season.”
Suresh Raina on Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja’s performances in IPL 2023
Suresh Raina talked exclusively to Sportskeeda prior to the start of the IPL 2023 season. During the interview, he expressed his delight at seeing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja perform well for CSK in front of their home fans at Chepauk.
Given the way the Super Kings have performed, here’s what he had to say in response to a Sportskeeda query:
“Ruturaj has been scoring runs for 2-3 seasons consistently. Even Jadeja, the way he is picking wickets in situations, is looking happy. They played in Chepauk after quite some time and have found the right balance.”
Suresh Raina also claimed that the Super Kings will reach the IPL 2023 final. He went on to say:
“What has impressed me the most is Ruturaj’s partnership with [Devon] Conway. They have enjoyed playing in front of their fans after so long and the team looks settled.
“I won’t be surprised if they make it to the final. This last phase of the league stage is going to be important with many teams having a chance to qualify.”
In IPL 2023, Gaikwad has scored 384 runs in 10 innings, while Jadeja has taken 15 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 7.38 and an average of 19.20.
