Gujarat Titans (GT) have named Shubman Gill as their new captain for the IPL 2024 season. He’ll take over for Hardik Pandya, who was traded to his previous team Mumbai Indians (MI) in a big all-cash deal on Monday.

Shubman Gill was a marquee signing for the Titans in IPL 2022, and he was their second-highest run-scorer with 483 runs in 16 matches. He pushed it to the next level in the IPL 2023, scoring 890 runs in 17 matches to earn the Orange Cap as well.

“I am delighted and proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket.”

The Mumbai Indians, who first spotted Hardik Pandya, repurchased him for Rs 15 crore. The five-time IP winners acquired the funds by transferring Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a larger all-cash trade.

“This brings back so many wonderful memories. Mumbai. Wankhede. Paltan. Feels good to be back. ???? #OneFamily @mumbaiindians,” Hardik said in an Instagram post.

Hardik is being considered as a potential alternative for current MI captain Rohit Sharma.
