Sanju Samson, an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has claimed that he will only focus on the things he can control, rather than his performance or selection setbacks.

Aged 29, he didn’t make the cut for the 2023 World Cup that recently ended. As an Indian wicketkeeper for white-ball, he’s seemingly less preferred. Nevertheless, he fired back with an impressive first-ever international century during the ODI series final against South Africa at Paarl.

When the chance to bat at No. 3 presented itself, Samson took it. He madely 108 runs from 114 pitches on a slow-moving pitch, leading India to a victorious, game-changing total of 296/8 in 50 overs.

Sanju Samson emphasized his attention on solely the controllable areas of his game in a post-game video issued by BCCI.

“Being an Indian cricketer, and with all the media pressure and what goes on and off the field, it is very challenging to keep your mind in the present, being real. I like to focus on what’s in my control. People might have different choices but it’s all about what you want to improve. Whatever setbacks I had, my failures, and whatever selections I missed out on… I don’t like to complain like the people who have done for me.”

“I always look within myself and ask, what else can I improve? Are you not patient enough? Are you not playing on the merit? I worked really hard with the Kerala team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It’s all about taking control of the controllable, and how much you can capitalize on.”

Thanks to Sanju Samson’s remarkable hundred runs, India clinched a thrilling 2-1 One Day International series victory over South Africa. This achievement marks India as the initial Asian team to claim two One Day International series triumphs in South Africa, replicating their 5-1 win from 2018.

The Men in Blue, who lost the toss and elected to bat first, recovered from losing two early wickets in 50 overs to score a superior 296. With a stunning 81 off 87, South Africa’s opener Tony de Zorzi proceeded to hammer away at Indian bowling, leading his team to 161/3 in the thirtyth over.

But the Proteas collapsed when he was out, going from 161/3 to being bowled out for 218.
