Rohit Sharma the captain of Team India lauded Suryakumar Yadav for harnessing his natural abilities and showcasing a different dimension of his talent in the T20 World Cup 2024 match against the USA. According to Rohit the capacity to adapt to diverse situations and innovate ones approach defines an experienced player.

Chasing a measly 111 for victory, the Men in Blue were three down for 39 runs in the eighth over of the innings. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, on the other hand, waited patiently, with the former bringing up a half-century. With a seven-wicket victory, India advanced to the Super Eight stage.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit stated that his team’s unbroken partnership was extremely important:

“He showed he’s got a different game as well, that is what you expect from experienced players. To come out and bat differently if the situation demands, that is what Surya did. The partnership [67-run stand] with [Shivam] Dube was very important for us. In the end, to take us home was a great effort.”

Suryakumar Yadav had a reprieve in the 13th over as Saurabh Netravalkar missed a catch in the third man zone. If the right-handed hitter had returned to the hut, the game may have turned out differently.

Rohit Sharma went on to express his relief after winning all three matches in the New York leg, citing how difficult it was to overcome the bowling-friendly conditions at the stadium. He added:

“We knew bowlers had to take the lead. We knew run-scoring is difficult on this pitch. Again, all our bowlers did the job, particularly Arshdeep, the way he started off was magnificent. Playing cricket here wasn’t easy. It could’ve been anyone’s game. All three games we played, we had to stick in till the end and take the game as deep as possible. Lucky for us, we managed to pull through in all three games and [we] take a lot of confidence for a victory like this.”
