The highstakes match unfolded at the prestigious Nassau County International Cricket Stadium situated in New York.
After losing the toss, the USA team batted first on a bowling-friendly surface. The pattern of low scores at the site continued, with the hosts scoring just 110/8 at the end of the first innings, with only Steven Taylor (24) and Nitish Kumar (27) contributing meaningfully. Arshdeep Singh (4-9) and Hardik Pandya (2-14) led India’s bowling attack with impressive spells.
Saurabh Netravalkar upset India early in the chase, removing Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3) within three overs. Fellow bowler Ali Khan sent Rishabh Pant out to the pavilion later, reducing India to 39/3 in 7.3 overs and putting them in a difficult scenario.
Suryakumar Yadav joined forces with Shivam Dube at this point to rescue the innings. The duo played cautiously at first, as the USA bowlers took advantage of the conditions to consistently torment the hitters. Surya opted to play a huge shot in the 13th over, when he was on 22 (30).
He smashed USA pacer Shadley van Schalkwyks delivery into the air towards the short third region. Saurabh Netravalkar made an attempt to catch it and covered some ground but missed. Devisha Shetty Suryakumar Yadav’s wife who witnessed the action from the stands felt a wave of relief when the catch was dropped considering the game was finely poised at that moment.

Suryakumar Yadav took advantage of the occasion, scoring a reasonable half-century to lead India to victory in 18.2 overs. Shivam Dube (31*) was a great foil for him, as they put on an undefeated 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

At the post-match presentation, Indian captain Rohit Sharma reminisced on the victory, saying:
“We knew it was going to be a tough task scoring those many runs. Credit to us that we held our nerves till the end. Credit to Surya and Dube for taking the game to the end and playing mature knocks.
