On Day 1 of the Ahmedabad Test, there was a comical moment when Indian captain Rohit Sharma jokingly threatened to hit Ishan Kishan after the latter accidentally dropped a water bottle. Humour prevailed, though, as everyone laughed off the incident. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the fourth and final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which started on Thursday, March 9. Usman Khawaja put on an incredible performance, hitting an unbeaten 104 off 251 balls, as the tourists finished the day at 255/4.

Indian bowlers had to work hard all day as Australia gained the advantage on a good batting pitch. However, Rohit Sharma retained his jovial personality.

Kishan, who is not part of the playing XI, had to run out with water bottles for his teammates during the second session of the day. As he ran back, Rohit jokingly threatened to hit him for dropping the bottle, raising his hand in a hilarious manner. Despite the joke, Kishan quickly picked up the bottle and continued back, with a video of the incident going viral on social media.

Ajit Agarkar commented on Star Sports that the pitch in Ahmedabad for the fourth Test looks better than those used in the previous three, yet the Indian team may be slightly frustrated by their bowling performance on the first day.

“I can understand that the ball doesn’t help you that much in the end, but if you have to be critical, probably the direction was not that good at the start, considering both (Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav) of them are such experienced bowlers.

“They probably didn’t get the rhythm or couldn’t figure out what the pitch was doing.”

However, he praised Shami and commented: “When the conditions are favourable for batting in India, it is not easy for the bowlers, but despite that, Shami picked up two important wickets. They have more work ahead tomorrow, especially since the ball is still new.”
