Team India captain Rohit Sharma has dismissed the acclaim heaped on his captaincy and leadership abilities during the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup in India. He stated, in his unique style, that after one terrible game, people will start labeling him a horrible captain.

Rohit has undoubtedly shown exceptional captaincy during the 2023 World Cup. He’s led the hosts to victory in all six matches, standing unbeaten in the tournament.

Before India’s match against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede on Thursday, November 2, Rohit didn’t pay heed to the praise he was receiving as a leader.

“You read the situation, the scoreboard and try and make the right moves. Sometimes, things work, sometimes, they don’t.

“You must be prepared for that. If I know that whatever calls we make, it is in the best interests of the team, it’s fine. I know how this whole thing works, one bad game, and I will become a bad captain.”

While the Wankhede Stadium is an excellent chase field, South Africa has won big batting first there. Rohit did not reveal India’s strategy if they win the toss:

“I don’t want to say what we’re going to do. It’s a ground where things can be unpredictable at times, as there’s so much in it for the bowlers as well.

“You can see a top spell coming from the bowlers, rattling the opposition. If the bowlers put the ball in the right area, it can be difficult. Everyone gets value here, the bowlers, spinners as well, and the batters.”

at their first innings, India were reduced to 229-9 against England at Lucknow, but they reacted by bundling the opponents out for 129.

Recently, the Indians have ruled Sri Lanka. During the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue defeated the island country twice, including in the final, which they won by 10 wickets.

However, Rohit noted that the game, advertised as a rematch of the 2011 World Cup final, will not be easy for the hosts:

“In this World Cup, we have seen a lot of games, I would not call it an upset, because every team here is to win games. Every team is trying to beat the other team, so at no point you can think that this is a cakewalk for us.”

Sri Lanka is mired in seventh position in the points table after winning only two of their first six games.
