On Thursday, Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, could only watch as Shubman Gill was out for zero runs in the third Test between India and England in Rajkot.
Gill often jumps at deliveries too forcefully and was caught out again in this way. Mark Wood tossed the ball, Gill knocked it to Ben Foakes, who caught it with ease. This setback plunged the home team into difficulty.

Gill just scored a great hundred in Visakhapatnam. Besides Rohit Sharma, he’s got the most experience batting. It’s disappointing he couldn’t repeat such a performance with a similar high score.
India rocked early despite winning toss
Rohit Sharma would have thought that he had won a crucial toss when he elected to bat first, given Rajkot has traditionally been one of the greatest batting grounds in the country. England should be happy with securing three wickets at the start.
The hosts didn’t help their cause either, as each dismissal was due to poor shot selection. Yashasvi Jaiswal got India off to a good start with a boundary off the first ball, but he soon left after hanging his bat away from his body and the ball nicked the edge to the slip.
Gill encountered another tricky spot and as Rajat Patidar seemed comfortable, an unexpected move had him sending one straight to short cover. The home team has a fair share of inexperience, probably why Ravindra Jadeja was moved up to No. 5, before newcomer Sarfaraz Khan.
