Rishabh Pant the wicketkeeper for Team India had a lackluster showing against Australia in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 encounter. He managed a mere 15 runs from 14 deliveries at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on Monday June 24.

Rishabh Pant stepped out to bat in the second over, after Josh Hazlewood bowled Virat Kohli with a stinging bouncer. The left-handed hitter was mainly overshadowed by skipper Rohit Sharma, who batted brilliantly at the opposite end.

Rishabh Pant had to handle Hazlewood’s accuracy and settle for singles before hitting his first boundary off the tenth delivery of his bat. He then started the critical match against leg-spinner Adam Zampa with a six over long-on on the opening delivery of his spell.

His uneven innings came to an end when attempting to hit a full delivery from Marcus Stoinis over the leg side. He could only obtain a leading edge, so the ball went to Hazlewood, who made a simple grab.

Rishabh Pant had been eliminated in the Super 8 round due to reverse sweeps, and another soft expulsion was hardly the best omen for the new No.3 heading into the knockout phase.

The Men in Blue were mainly unaffected by Rishabh Pant’s difficulties in the middle, given how well Rohit Sharma batted at the other end. India were at 93/2 after eight overs in the first innings.

Suryakumar Yadav, a new batsman, also played second fiddle as Rohit continued to bat with intent, capitalizing on his good start and form. The Hitman scored 92 runs off 41 deliveries before getting dismissed by a Mitchell Starc yorker from around the wicket.

As of writing, India is 142/3 after 13 overs, with Shivam Dube taking over the crease in the penultimate stretch of the middle overs.
