Sania Mirza, the former tennis player, has been selected as the mentor of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the first Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023, which will be played at Mumbai from March 4 to 26. Sania featured in her last Grand Slam at the Australian Open. “The pioneer in Indian sports for women, and a youth icon; someone who has always played Bold & broken barriers all throughout her career. She is a champion on & off the field, and we are proud to welcome the former tennis player, Sania Mirza, as the mentor of the RCB women’s cricket team, RCB mentioned on their social media.

Sania is the 1st Indian woman to win a major tennis title. She has already finished with six across women’s doubles and mixed doubles. She is even expected to join the squad after the ATP Dubai Open gets over, which probably would be her last tournament. Sania Mirza, 36, has announced her decision to retire from professional tennis before the Australian Open, where she & her partner Rohan Bopanna finished runners-up in the mixed doubles.

Sania Mirza responded, “I was a little surprised but excited. Luckily or I have been a professional athlete for 2 decades. My next job is to try & help young women and girls believe that sports can be one of their first career choices,” Mirza said in a chat with RCB after her appointment.
