Devdutt Padikkal faced a golden duck in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede on a Friday (May 17) replacing Quinton de Kock in the lineup. The southpaw was swiftly sent off declared leg before wicket (lbw) by Nuwan Thushara on his very first delivery in the inconsequential match.
The ejection occurred on the third ball of the Super Giants’ innings. Nuwan Thushara delivered an inswinger to the middle stump, and Devdutt Padikkal stood squarely in front of the stumps. The left-hander was beaten on the inner edge as the ball landed low on the front pad.
The on-field umpire ruled Devdutt Padikkal out, but he disputed the call following a short conversation with captain KL Rahul. The replays indicated that the ball would have hit the middle and leg stumps. He appeared dejected on his long stroll back to the pavilion.

The defeat also summed up Devdutt Padikkal’s IPL season, which ended with only 38 runs in seven innings. The 23-year-old joined LSG on a trade of INR 7.75 crore ahead of the 2024 season.
MI strike early against LSG in IPL 2024 match
MIs impressive start against LSG in their last IPL 2024 match on Friday was initiated by Devdutt Padikkals early wicket setting a strong tone for the game.
