MS Dhoni came out to bat in the 18th over, following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal. The veteran was charged with closing the innings in style after CSK’s middle overs were dominated by the PBKS spinners.

In the last over, Dhoni was taken by surprise when Rahul Chahar was handed the ball. The leg-spinner held Dhoni to one run off three deliveries.

Faced with a torrent of full tosses from Arshdeep Singh in the last over, Dhoni hit a classic six off the penultimate ball and tried a fast double off the final delivery to give CSK a modest final boost to their total. Daryl Mitchell easily finished the runs at the other end, but Dhoni battled on the second run as he ran towards the danger end.

Rahul Chahar bowled against MS Dhoni in the second last over. This was an important moment. Sam Curran, the PBKS captain, gave the over to Chahar. This was a bold choice. Bowlers like Harshal Patel still had overs left.

“I didn’t want to bowl it fuller to him, he hits it well if you push it fuller. I think we conceded about 8-10 runs more than what we started with, but this is still a good target to chase down,” Chahar said during the mid-innings break.
