Michael Vaughan thinks Rohit Sharma will join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after IPL 2024. He thinks Rohit will take over from MS Dhoni. Vaughan also thinks Rohit might become the captain, replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad.
MS Dhoni stepped down as captain before CSK’s first match this season. Gaikwad became the new captain, which seemed a smooth change. In Mumbai, the team traded Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans. They made Hardik the new captain.
Pandya was booed in Ahmedabad and Mumbai, while Rohit was cheered on, with rumors of factionalism in the dressing room spreading like wildfire.
CSK has previously struggled to replace MS Dhoni, such as when Ravindra Jadeja was named captain only to have the choice reversed after CSK’s performance declined. However, Dhoni spoke with Gaikwad about his leadership chances a few years back, and the latter has performed admirably with three victories from five games.
“I would have kept Rohit as captain” – Michael Vaughan
Vaughan also stated that if it were up to him, he would not have replaced Rohit as captain in the IPL 2024, at least to avoid putting more pressure on Hardik and creating difficult situations with the former poised to lead India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Michael Vaughan added:
After a sluggish start, MI has managed to win a handful of games in IPL 2024 and is currently eighth in the points table.
