During the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Gujarat Titans (GT) IPL 2024 game at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, a video surfaced alleging Matheesha Pathirana touched MS Dhoni’s foot before bowling. Fans also much loved the video.

Actually, there­ was no such event that occurred. The­ view angle of that trending vide­o clip created an appearance­ that Matheesha Pathirana leaned down to touch the fe­et of CSK’s captain. However, this was not accurate­.

However, a clear viewpoint of the footage that has recently surfaced shows Matheesha Pathirana just picking up his bowling marker without touching Dhoni’s feet, who was standing near the marker.

In the Chennai Super Kings-Gujarat Titans game, the defending champions defeated the 2023 runners-up by 63 runs at Chepauk. Gujarat Titans bowled first after winning the toss and surrendered 206 as CSK celebrated.

Shivam Dube top-scored with 51 off 23, with two fours and five sixes, while Rachin Ravindra hit 46 off 20 with six fours and three sixes. Chennai skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 46 off 36, while Daryl Mitchell provided 24* off 20. Sameer Rizvi also made an excellent cameo of 14 from six balls, including two sixes.

Gujarat Titans stumbled in their pursuit and were held to 143-8. Sai Sudharsan led the way with 37 runs off 31 balls, while no other hitter scored more than 30. CSK’s pace trio of Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande each got two wickets.

While three CSK pacers each took two wickets against the Gujarat Titans, Pathirana also made a significant contribution. He bowled his whole four-over quota and was economical, with figures of 1-29.

The Sri Lankan fast bowler claimed Sai Sudharsan’s wicket in the 15th over of the Gujarat Titans’ chase. The left-handed hitter attempted to take a full delivery but was caught at long-on by Rizvi.

The 21-ye­ar-old Matheesha Pathirana claimed 19 scalps across 12 matches. His average­ stood at 29, economy rate 7.25. Chennai Supe­r Kings won their fifth IPL title, equalling the­ record.
