India, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, achieved a resounding victory against Australia by winning the first Test match at Nagpur by innings and 132 runs, giving them a one-match lead in the four-match series. They are now one step closer to making it to the final of the World Test Championship.
India gained a solid lead of 223 runs in their first round of batting and limited the Kangaroos to only 91 runs in the second innings with a five-wicket haul from Ravichandran Ashwin and support from Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami and Axar Patel.
India’s victory over Australia, restricting them to a low score of 177, was made possible due to the exceptional efforts of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. After suffering a knee injury, Jadeja made a successful comeback with a five-wicket haul giving up only 47 runs, while Ashwin also took 3 wickets at 42 runs.
Indian Captain Rohit Sharma arrived at the crease for the second innings and held his own, even as other players were being dismissed. He scored 120 runs out of 212 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes, ensuring that India was well ahead of Australia’s 177 runs.
Jadeja’s triumphant return to batting went on, as he registered a noteworthy 70 runs, helping the team reach 400 runs with the help of Axar Patel. Patel contributed a significant 84 runs, however, he was bowled out by Pat Cummins, missing out on his century by just 16 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja was awarded the Man of the Match distinction for his remarkable performance which included 7 wickets and scoring 70 runs.
At the post-match ceremony, Ravindra Jadeja discussed his ongoing success as a batsman, stating, “I usually strive to keep my approach to batting straightforward and I don’t like to make too many changes. I try to keep it easy and concentrate more on my game, especially at the moment since the number 567 is quite important.”
