In the third IND vs AUS Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Australian team led by Steve Smith. Australia dominated with the ball in the first innings, restricting India to a meager total of 109 on a challenging pitch.
Despite gaining an 88-run lead by scoring 197 in their first innings, Australia faced many difficulties due to the pitch’s misbehavior. However, India failed to capitalize on the situation in their second innings and was bowled out for a modest score of 163. Australia comfortably chased down the required 76 runs with nine wickets remaining, securing their first series win.
Although India still holds a 2-1 lead in the series, several issues must be addressed before the fourth Test in Ahmedabad. Here are a few changes that India could consider for the final Test.
Kuldeep Yadav replaces Mohammed Siraj.
Before the ongoing series, cricket experts had expressed their keenness to witness the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in India’s starting lineup. Despite the left-arm unorthodox bowler not having a chance to showcase his skills thus far, he may be picked for the final match.
In the past, Australian batsmen have faced difficulties against wrist spinners, and Kuldeep has proved to be a challenging bowler for some of them. Given that the pacers have yet to play a significant role in the series, the team management, led by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, may contemplate opting for just one fast bowler in the playing 11.
Ishan Kishan replaces KS Bharat.
Despite his impressive wicketkeeping skills, KS Bharat has struggled with the bat in the ongoing series, scoring just 57 runs in five innings at an average of 14.25. It should be noted, however, that the pitches have been challenging for even the most experienced batsmen, such as Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. Nevertheless, India would have expected Bharat to contribute more with the bat in a series where each run has been crucial.
Moreover, Bharat’s inability to assert himself has resulted in India losing a few crucial reviews. Therefore, the team management may contemplate giving Ishan Kishan his debut Test cap for the fourth match in Ahmedabad.
