Nicholas Pooran representing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) took charge against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday May 14. The explosive southpaw batsman notched an impressive 61 runs off 27 deliveries at a stellar strike rate of 225.93. By doing so he ensured that LSG remained competitive after DC established a target of 209 runs.
The Caribbean ace came in to bat in the fourth over, with the score at 24-3. He went on the DC bowlers right immediately, hitting 20 runs off his first five deliveries following an attack on Axar Patel during the powerplay. LSG continued to lose wickets on the other end, with Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni unable to impress.
Nicholas Pooran, on the other hand, continued about his job as if he had no idea what was going on at the other end, bringing his total to fifty from only 20 deliveries. His rampage came to a stop when Axar Patel made a superb catch at cover off Mukesh Kumar’s bowling.
Fans praised Nicholas Pooran lone performance against DC on social media. Check out some of the reactions on X (previously Twitter) here:
Nicholas Pooran has had an excellent campaign with the bat
This season, the left-handed hitter has consistently stepped up for LSG. Prior to the current match, he had scored 363 runs in 12 innings with a strike rate of 162.05. He began his season with an outstanding half-century against the Rajasthan Royals. He followed up with cameos as LSG cruised through the first half of the league stage.
Despite LSG’s struggles, he has maintained his consistency, scoring runs at a rapid pace. Even with LSG’s crushing defeat to SRH, the southpaw and Badoni salvaged the innings. They propelled the side to a competitive total on paper, despite a dismal performance by the top order.
Nicholas Pooran’s departure has rendered LSG’s chances of victory slim, but the visitors are still in contention. Yudhvir Singh Charak and Arshad Khan, the lower order duo, have chipped in with boundaries to prevent DC from breathing ahead of the death overs.
