Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur met after the IPL 2023 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, May 14, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Between 2017 and 2021, they played together in the IPL. Shardul and Deepak used to play for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. For the next four years, they played for CSK.
During the IPL 2022 mega auction, Shardul Thakur was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC). This was the end of his time with CSK. Then, KKR got him from DC before the start of this season.
CSK used their official Twitter account to show fans Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar’s meeting at the Chepauk. Before smiling for the camera, the two were seen swapping Jerseys and giving each other a hug.

MS Dhoni, captain of CSK, said that Deepak Chahar is a great swing bowler after his team lost to KKR. He thought that the swing bowler had played enough cricket to have learned how to change his lengths when the ball stopped spinning.
In the powerplay, Chahar got the Super Kings off to a great start in the second Inning by taking three wickets. But Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana did a good job against the spinners and led their team to victory.
Dhoni said:
“He’s [Deepak Chahar] somebody who swings the ball. He’s experienced enough to realize when it’s not swinging, what lengths to bowl. Once you realize it’s not swinging, you’ve got to correct the lengths and know what fields to set and bowl accordingly.”
After the loss, Dhoni added:
“I think it was one of those where you win the toss and bat first. And the moment you bowled first in the second innings, it was a 180 wicket. Dew made a big difference. There was a lot of purchase for the spinners in the first innings. Whenever there’s no certainty about dew, the decision becomes slightly tricky.”
