On Monday, October 16, during a rain delay in Australia vs. Sri Lanka’s 2023 World Cup match at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium, David Warner switched to groundskeeping.

Following his exploits on the field, David Warner, 36, grabbed two diving catches to eliminate Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, the acting captain of Sri Lanka.

When Lanka were 178/4 after 32.1 overs, with Charith Asalanka and Dhananjay de Silva at the crease, the rain stopped the game.

Despite a 125-run opening combination between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera in the 2023 World Cup opener, Australia rallied back against Sri Lanka.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, took the initiative and quickly removed Nissanka (61 off 67) and Perera (78 off 82). He also delivered a straight hit that struck out Dunith Wellalage (2 off 9).

The valuable scalps of Mendis (9 off 13) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (run-a-ball 8) were subsequently claimed by Adam Zampa.

Another breakthrough was made by Mitchell Starc, who dismissed Dhanajaya de Silva (7 off 13) before Sri Lanka could regroup.

With Charith Asalanka and Chamika Karunaratne at the crease, Sri Lanka had scored 186/6 after 36 overs. To win their first game of the current World Cup, Australia had to limit Lanka to a below-par total.

Dasun Shanka and Matheesha Pathirana were substituted for the match by Chamika Karunaratne and Lahiru Kumara. Particularly Shanaka has been out for two weeks after suffering a right thigh muscle strain in their most recent match against Pakistan, which they lost by six wickets.

Meanwhile, Australia played with the same lineup that fell short against the Proteas by 134 runs.
