On Tuesday, Chetan Sharma, the BCCI chief selector, became embroiled in a scandal after a television channel ran a sting operation that uncovered his disclosure of confidential selection matters. Sharma, who the BCCI reinstated after the Indian team’s performance at the T20 World Cup in Australia, was apparently seen in the sting operation making disparaging remarks about players such as Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. The news channel also apparently disclosed Sharma’s private conversations with head coach Rahul Dravid and Kohli.

Sharma claimed that many players were receiving injections to speed up their recovery to resume playing cricket even though they were only 80 to 85 percent able. The ex-India fast bowler also indicated that there had been a clash between him and the team management over Bumrah’s return from a stress fracture for the T20I series against Australia in September.

Bumrah is still unable to play and is likely to miss the four-Test Border-Gavaskar series and the three-match ODI series that follows.

Sharma claimed that there was a clash of egos between ex-captain Kohli and previous BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. When PTI attempted to contact Sharma, they were unable to get a comment.

It has been reported that the BCCI is investigating the situation regarding the national selectors, who are contractually obligated to not communicate with the media. It is up to Jay Shah to decide the fate of Chetan and whether Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma will be comfortable with attending selection meetings with him, in light of the fact that he has revealed confidential information, according to a senior BCCI official who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity.
